For combining quality and innovation in the sustainability of local production; for its safe purification and nationwide advocacy for clean water that delivers value and safety, Nestlé Pure Life is LEADERSHIP Product of the Year 2025.
The brand has received positive attention for its sustainability efforts by, for instance, introducing clear bottle caps to improve recyclability and using 50 per cent recycled PET in its bottles. These initiatives reflect a commitment to reducing virgin plastic use and aligning with Nestlé’s global sustainability goals.
Nestlé Pure Life earned its place as the world’s largest bottled water brand by delivering pure, safe water in more than 40 countries including Nigeria. Nestlé Water Pure Life Nigeria Plc is the Nigerian subsidiary responsible for producing and distributing the Nestlé Pure Life brand of bottled water in Nigeria. A major bottled water brand in the country, it is known for its purified drinking water sourced from underground wells and which goes through a multi-step filtration process. The company, a part of the global Nestlé group, emphasizes producing safe, affordable and high–quality water to meet the needs of Nigerian consumers.
The water is sourced from protected underground wells and is purified through a process that includes carbon filtration to remove chemicals and demineralization. Minerals are added back to the water to give it a refreshing taste, and it is then disinfected with UV rays or ozone gas before bottling.
Nestlé Pure Life offers various sizes of bottled water, including options fortified with zinc for added health benefits, and some products, like sparkling water, are made with sustainable practices in mind.
The brand is available through various channels across Nigeria, and Nestlé Nigeria provides contact information for customer service and online orders in Lagos and Abuja.
To show commitment, Nestlé Nigeria has invested in the local economy by opening a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Abaji to produce its products locally. The company highlights its commitment to creating value for its shareholders and the Nigerian society.
Also, Nestlé Pure Life in Nigeria focuses on sustainability through packaging innovations like switching to clear caps for better recyclability and reducing plastic by light-weighting bottles. The company also emphasizes water stewardship through efficient production processes that use less water and educational campaigns like “Water Education Day” to promote water conservation among children.
In addition, Nestlé Nigeria has contributed to the economy by incorporating 50 per cent recycled PET into its beverage packaging. It has been recognized with awards for its sustainability effort.
Since 2013, Nestle Pure Life has reduced the amount of plastic in its 0.6-litre and 1.5-litre bottles by over 15 per cent.
Nestle Pure Life always looks for new and innovative technologies and ideas that can help the company to make the best use of water throughout its processes. As part of its longstanding commitment to sustainable water management and creating shared value in communities, the company recently announced that it is working towards the Alliance for Water Stewardship (AWS) accreditation. This accreditation asks for the best practices in sustainable water balance, good water quality and good water governance to ensure the long-term sustainability of water resources.
Nestlé Nigeria, in August 2025, launched a national water quality advocacy campaign in response to alarming statistics showing that more than 113 million Nigerians lack access to safe drinking water.
The initiative, developed in collaboration with the organised private sector in water, sanitation and hygiene (OPS-WASH), aims to raise awareness and drive multi-sectoral action toward improving water safety across the country.
Unveiled in Abuja, the campaign underscores the growing concern over waterborne diseases, inadequate sanitation infrastructure, and their impact on public health and economic development.
The campaign rollout leveraged multiple platforms, including print, broadcast and digital media as well as grassroots outreach. Nestlé’s aim is to equip households and communities with the knowledge and tools to protect their water sources and ensure safer hydration.
The initiative is based on the recognition that waterborne illnesses place a heavy burden on Nigeria’s underfunded health system, while also hampering productivity and education, with poor sanitation costing the economy an estimated N455 billion annually.
Nestlé Nigeria’s recent financial results show strong performance with robust organic growth and resilient margins, while the Nestlé Pure Life brand focuses on product innovation, sustainability and a commitment to healthy nutrition. Nestlé Pure Life itself is noted for its purified water with added minerals for taste, a zero-calorie sparkling water option, and a focus on sustainable, recyclable packaging.
Nestlé Nigeria has reported a notable increase in profitable growth and a substantial growth in its operating and financial performance for January 1 to June 30, 2025. The company achieved a profit before tax of N88.4 billion, marking a significant turnaround from a loss of -N252.5 billion in H1 2024. Nestlé Nigeria saw a robust 43 per cent increase in revenue (compared to H1 2024) totaling N581.1 billion.
